Christy Tinnes is a principal at Groom Law Group with over 25 years of experience working with large employer health and welfare plans, health insurers, and service providers on complex HIPAA and ERISA issues. She has a particular expertise in HIPAA security breaches and data analytics/marketing issues under the HIPAA privacy and security rules.
Christy also advises employers, insurers, and service providers on the legal requirements for wellness programs and health benefits, including under ERISA, HIPAA, the ADA, and GINA.
Christy is the co-chair of the firm’s Wellness Committee, which focuses on attorney and staff well-being and balance. She was the chair of the firm’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for several years and is a current member of the DEI Advisory Board, where she provides input into and helps organize programs and community outreach aimed at bridging the gap for those who are traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession.
Christy is a popular speaker at professional conferences and on webinars on privacy, wellness, and health plan topics and is a frequent guest lecturer at Georgetown Law School. She also was a contributing author and speaker with the Employee Benefit Institute of America (EBIA) for several years.
