Ed tries complex cases before courts, federal agencies and arbitrators, and defends clients in federal agency investigations. He has extensive appellate experience as well, having appeared before numerous federal and state courts of appeal.
After decades at a global law firm litigating mergers and acquisitions, securities fraud defense, commercial contract disputes, corporate restructuring, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations, False Claims Act and qui tam cases, foreign and domestic takings, trademark infringement and more, Ed joined Groom in 2012 to help build out the litigation practice. At Groom, he handles disputes involving employee benefits and health care for employers, pension and health plans, ESOP trustees, actuarial services firms, banking institutions, financial advisory firms and others on such matters as pension plan withdrawal liability, retiree benefits, retirement plan fees and investment lineups, benefit eligibility, COBRA notices and more, often in financially distressed situations or class actions, including matters with parallel Department of Labor investigations.
Ed also chairs Groom’s Pro Bono Committee. He has led the firm to being named a “Law Firm of the Year” by DC Legal Aid and earning awards from other public interest organizations for making a difference in the lives of the economically disadvantaged.
